Welcome to Tidewater Learning Resources! I am a teacher, a specialized literacy practitioner, and a mom. I am passionate about structured literacy, the Science of Reading, and using the Orton-Gillingham approach to support students and families in their journeys of learning.
My Background and Training
- Orton-Gillingham Academy Member (AOGPE/ Associate Level)
- 5+ years tutoring experience as a trained OG practitioner working with more than 20 students ages Pre-K through Middle School
- 20 years of classroom teaching in Virginia and Charlotte, NC
- BA in Psychology and Master's in Teaching from the University of Virginia
- Graduate Certificate in Counseling from North Carolina State University, 2021

Through relationships with several local schools, TLR offers on-site tutoring as well as virtual options.
The Orton-Gillingham Approach
The Orton-Gillingham approach is a highly structured and multi-sensory way to teach literacy. It is designed to support learners who have difficulties with reading and writing. Aligned with the Science of Reading, there is extensive research and years of data to support the effectiveness of the approach.
